"Goodbye, Jared" is the cosmic story of two best friends. During a party, Bette and Judy hide upstairs, predicting the future with a deck of tarot cards. The cards reveal a gruesome fate: Bette's unfortunate boyfriend, Jared, has to die. Shortly after, in a shocking but inevitable turn of events, Jared meets his untimely demise. Instead of reporting to the proper authorities, the duo decides to hide the body. Through their journey in this absurd world, the pair fulfill their destiny and transform into wicked outlaws.
My name is Quinn Tucker. I'm a filmmaker educated at Wesleyan University from Evanston, Illinois. Although I have always found film and television to be influential in shaping my identity, through my time at Wesleyan, I discovered my passion for filmmaking. While on a road trip, I was discussing my love for road films like "Thelma and Louise," and the concept for "Goodbye, Jared" came to fruition. The film will be completed in April, if you want to view the piece please contact me at qtucker@wesleyan.edu.
This film draws inspiration from unlikely genres including buddy films, westerns, 90s high school comedies, and hyper-stylized cult classics. Pulling from this legacy, the world of "Goodbye, Jared" twists reality, birthing an oddly familiar yet unsettling dark comedy. As you following the dynamic duo through this absurd world, their unlikely tale becomes disturbingly relatable. Through my studies, I have found many action, western, and adventure films to be unrelatable and cater to a very specific audience. My goal is to create a film that resonates with a wider audience that is often ignored in commercial filmmaking.
If Cher from "Clueless" had a child with John Wayne, that would be Bette. This campy cowgirl stands up for what she believes in. In contrast, Judy is the loveable, chaotic sidekick whose favorite film is undoubtedly "Heathers." Together the duo aspires to embody Thelma and Louise but falls closer in line with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Style is at the core of this production. Our focus is to experiment with the camp aesthetics that are at the heart of cherished cult classics. The set design and costuming will be consciously crafted to create a distinct world that is both playful and eerie. To ensure the style is maintained visually, we invested heavily in camera equipment and lighting to evoke the styles of the past. Although being shot digitally, this project will visually recreate the vintage appeals of classic cinema.
